BECOME A MEMBER!

YUCCA members are youth ages 14-25. â€‹

As a YUCCA member, you'll attend weekly member meetings alongside our Youth Steering Committee to plan and brainstorm, participate in our group chat, attend our in-person events when your schedule allows, help to recruit new members, and work alongside our staff to give public comment for YUCCA to your City Council, County, Commission, and State Legislature!

READY TO TAKE ACTION?

If you're a young person between the ages of 14-25 who is excited to commit to attending weekly member meetings, coming to in-person events, and helping to recruit new members, we'd love to welcome you into the movement for climate justice!

To become a member, you will:

  • Fill out the YUCCA Engagement Form

  • Talk one-on-one with a YUCCA staff member

  • Read through our orientation packet and orient yourself with YUCCA's work

  • Start attending weekly member meetings

  • Begin the YUCCA political education training series (workshops are held regularly)

PAID STAFF AND STEERING COMMITTEE

YUCCA's membership structure is designed to keep youth (specifically BIPOC youth) at the center, while still engaging others of all ages and backgrounds in our work. â€‹Our structure, comprised of full-time paid staff members and Youth Steering Committee members ages 17-25, is designed to build people power to create change in New Mexico while recognizing differing levels of capacity.

Our 5 paid staff members (4 of whom are also Steering Committee members) are in charge of day-to-day operations, leading our campaigns and assigning tasks when needed. The 13 young people who comprise our Youth Steering Committee lead YUCCA's membership by directing campaigns, planning events, conducting outreach and education, and much more. Our paid Youth Steering Committee members–who must be nominated by a current Steering Committee member–serve as our primary decision-making body.
