2021 Legislative Debrief

Dear Friend & Supporter,

The 2021 NM State Legislative Session finally wrapped up last Saturday. Please see our final call to take action on community solar! Last stop is the Governor's desk. She has until 4/9 to sign legislation that passed both chambers. See instructions below.

This year during the Legislative session, communities in New Mexico cried out for help. We asked for concrete, science-based climate legislation and for a just transition for frontline communities. There was a huge slate of climate and environmental justice related legislation introduced from tighter regulation on recycling fracking water to establishing strong carbon pollution limits, BUT this legislation failed to get scheduled or was tabled. These proposals died quietly, like they were supposed to. We are disappointed that New Mexico's elected leadership has not taken enough or big enough strides in the right direction on the climate or on tough and enforceable regulations. We will continue to move and fight because our futures depend on it. Thank you all for joining us in this fight!

Final Push on the Governor for SB 84 Community Solar! 🌞

Want to see Community Solar become reality? Get your network involved & ask them to reach out to the Governor's Office. Although it was not 100% the version of community solar we want, it’s a start and we are going try to do as much as we can under this version. Now, it is time for us to organize as many people as we can to let the Governor’s Office know that the public wants the Governor to sign the Community Solar bill and make it happen. Any legislation from the 2021 Legislative Session that the Governor does not sign by Friday, April 9th is automatically pocket vetoed, meaning that it does not become chaptered & become law.
