This week, the Water Quality Control Commission will hold their first meeting since a bombshell Santa Fe New Mexican article revealed that the Governor's office was working behind the scenes to stack the deck in favor of the oil and gas industry in the Commission – a body that's supposed to be independent.
Since last year, we've been making our voices heard to push back against produced water reuse – which would allow oil and gas companies to dump toxic, radioactive fracking waste into our lands and waters – and after months of organizing, we won a strong rule to help safeguard our lands and waters from this toxic waste.
But this summer, the so-called WATR Alliance, an oil and gas industry front group pushing to allow industry to avoid accountability, submitted a petition to reopen the case and undo the hard-fought protections we won. And in August, the Water Quality Control Commission caved to polluters, advancing the WATR Alliance's petition amidst pressure from the Governor's office as they lined up votes and leaned on cabinet heads to hand industry a total do-over and push produced water reuse across the finish line.

This Thursday, we have the chance to show up, make our voices heard, and hold the Commission accountable.
Three motions for disqualification have been filed by our movement allies calling for these compromised Commissioners to be recused from this matter and dismiss the planned hearing on the WATR Alliance petition, and now it's up to us to help pack the room.
RSVP to join us THIS Thursday, November 13th at 9:00 am to make your voice heard and help us send a resounding message that our government should serve the people – not polluters.
