Rethinking Thanksgiving

Writer: YUCCAYUCCA

Good Morning!

We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy and able to rest today. Today, folks gather with those they live with, with those in their pods or even virtually to share gratitude and a meal. We are grateful for all of you in our community who have stepped up to contribute to Santa Fe Mutual Aid or work with YUCCA to elect better leaders. We would also like to uplift the importance of continuing to unlearn and relearn with our community members and loved ones.

Despite November being Native American Heritage Month, Thanksgiving is still widely celebrated with revisionist history. Rather than perpetuating the Thanksgiving myth, it's important to inform and equip ourselves with the knowledge to decolonize our understanding of this widely unchallenged holiday and be an ally. Unlearn the story of Thanksgiving, have the conversation with friends and family, and show up and learn about issues facing native communities now. Below are some resources as well as some events happening today to be in community with others!
