Searching For Your Organizing Home? Step Into The Work With Us As A YUCCA Member

The future we're fighting for won't come through isolation, division, or awareness and outrage alone. It will be won when we link arms across movements, generations, and struggles to build collective power.

That's why we just rolled out a brand-new intergenerational membership structure designed to bring young people and community members together to build the world that we know is possible – and on Monday, June 1st at 6:00 pm, we'll officially begin welcoming more people into the work of creating that world together.

For years, YUCCA's membership structure has been grounded in the belief that young people should always remain at the center of our fight for the livable future we know is possible, and that belief hasn't changed. But as our work has grown, so has our understanding that building something beyond the systems of oppression harming our communities and the Earth will require all of us – because the crises we're facing are too large, too interconnected, and too urgent for any of us to tackle alone.

If we’re going to build the future we know is possible, we have to come together across every divide manufactured to protect the status quo to learn from each other, strengthen our shared analysis, and build the kind of relationships, trust, and solidarity that the systems shaping our lives have spent generations trying to destroy as we stand together in the fight to transform and replace them.

That's why, for the first time ever, we're inviting every young person and community member ages 18 and over to join us in the fight as YUCCA members – and we've created new spaces and pathways specifically designed to help you step into this work alongside us.

eginning this coming Monday, June 1st at 6:00 pm – and every Monday after that – our virtual We Got Us Community Meetings will transform into a space where you can take the first step in YUCCA's membership onboarding process, while still serving as a place where community members can learn how to plug into urgent calls to action and support our ongoing campaigns.

These virtual meetings are designed to help bring young people and community members into the fight with us for the long-haul: a space to learn more about YUCCA's work, values, and vision, begin the membership onboarding process, and find out how you can help shape our strategy in the fights ahead.

But these meetings are just the starting point. After attending a We Got Us Community Meeting, those interested in becoming YUCCA members will continue through an onboarding process led by YUCCA leaders and staff before joining one of many new strategy and tactics committees where members will work alongside one another to shape the future of our collective work – from guiding our No Corporate Control, Anti-Tech Oligarchy, and Environmental Justice Campaigns to helping to lead our tactics-based work in Creative Resistance, Political Justice, Leadership Development, and more under the guidance of experienced youth leaders.

While formal membership is currently open to young people and community members ages 18 and over, we'll be rolling out pathways for younger youth to join us in the work as members in the coming months. Until then, young people under the age of 18 are invited to join us in our weekly We Got Us Community Meetings, ongoing community gathering spaces, and trainings as we continue growing our skills, analysis, and leadership together.

If you've been looking for an organizing home where you can expand your skills and analysis, grow our collective power, and build towards a future beyond the systems that are harming us, we hope you'll join us on Monday evening and take the first step towards becoming a YUCCA member – whether you're a young person who's new to this work or an elder who's been organizing for years.

And before we kick off this new chapter for YUCCA's membership, we hope you'll RSVP to join us this Sunday, May 31st at 7:00 pm in Albuquerque for our We Got Us Community Potluck – a place for us to break bread with each other and continue building the power and community that will carry us through the fights ahead as we step into the next phase of the work together.

Because youth leadership doesn't mean young people fighting alone – and the kind of power capable of winning real change is built across generations, not confined to them.
