The first weeks of the new year have made one thing clear: inaction is no longer an option.
From the kidnapping of the President and First Lady of Venezuela, to the murder of Renee Nicole Good and Kevin Porter at the hands of ICE, to the decision to withdraw the United States from significant international climate commitments including the UNFCC and the IPCC, we're witnessing escalating attacks on our communities, the rise of fascism in plain sight, and the unraveling of systems that were never built to serve us.
If that's what we're up against, it's not enough for us to be isolated and outraged – we have to be organized.

That's why this Tuesday, January 20th, we're linking arms with 25+ cross- movement partner organizations to bring thousands of New Mexicans into the streets for a We Got Us Mass Mobilization in Santa Fe on the Opening Day of the 2026 Legislative Session – and this is your invitation to join us to help make our collective power impossible to ignore.
To stand in solidarity with community members and advocates from across movements, generations, and struggles. To demand real climate action that matches the scale of this crisis, investments in care instead of criminalization, economic justice that puts people over profits, and an end to the systems of violence harming our communities at home and abroad. To lift up a shared vision for the future our communities are already building together.
And to show decision-makers that We Got Us, even when systems fail us.
YUCCA has a long history of mobilizing young people and community members to take collective action on the Opening Day of the Legislative Session – from the large-scale street mural we constructed outside of the Legislature last year to call for urgent climate action, to our 2024 disruption of the Governor's State of the State Address to demand a just transition away from fossil fuels and a ceasefire in Gaza, to our die-in in the Rotunda in 2023 that called attention to the need for meaningful action on environmental justice.
This year, we're continuing that tradition alongside partners across movements – from New Mexico Dream Team to Organized Power in Numbers, Indivisible Albuquerque, Southwest Coalition for Palestine, Millions for Prisoners New Mexico, Showing Up For Racial Justice Northern New Mexico, and many more.
We Got Us is about more than one movement, one day, one protest, one President, or one Legislative Session – it's the launching point for continued collective action in 2026 and far beyond.
During the Mass Mobilization, we'll gather for a march beginning at Santa Fe Plaza, followed by a powerful rally and mutual aid fair at the Roundhouse as lawmakers return to Santa Fe for the Legislative Session, where we'll hear from youth organizers, frontline community members, movement leaders, performers, and artists from across New Mexico and the region as we show what it possible when we all fight together – and organize for what comes next.
Because this moment has the power to shape our future, and it demands our collective action.
Join us at Santa Fe Plaza on Tuesday, January 20th at 10:30 am as we come together across every divide created to keep us isolated – to defend our communities, to care for one another, to demand more than this system has ever offered us, and to build something different, together.
We'll see you in the streets. ✊
