We've spent the past 6 weeks asking ourselves an important question: What will it take to move beyond winning individual fights, and instead transform and replace the systems shaping our lives?
As we go up against the oppressive systems that have harmed us for generations amidst climate collapse, rising fascism, and escalating attacks on our communities, we know that isolated moments of urgency, reactivity, and outrage are not enough. If we want to win the transformational change we deserve, we have to move into sustained, strategic organizing grounded in our communities' urgent needs, the solutions we're already building together, and the lessons passed down by those who led these fights long before us.
That's why YUCCA has spent the past month and a half engaged in a period of strategic planning – putting much of our day-to-day work on pause as we spent intentional time reflecting and strategizing about the conditions we're organizing under, what this moment demands of us, and how we can bring more of our community into the fight.
Since 2019, YUCCA has organized alongside our communities to demand accountability from those driving the climate crisis, hold decision-makers accountable for pollution, advance a just transition away from extractive industry, and put people and the planet before corporate profit. But as harm to our people, planet, and futures continues to escalate at the hands of systems that were built on extraction, exploitation, and sacrifice, we know this work has to go further.
That's why we're excited to step out of this strategic planning period and launch a new chapter of YUCCA's organizing work – one focused on building the strategy, capacity, and infrastructure needed to not only fight back against the oppressive systems shaping our lives, but bring young people and communities together to build the future we know is possible.
Over the coming weeks, we'll be rolling out our vision for the future of our collective work and new ways for young people and community members to get involved, get trained, and get organized with us: from a brand new membership structure designed to bring more people into sustained organizing work for the long haul, to political education opportunities and tactical trainings that will help us to grow our shared skills and analysis, new opportunities to step into leadership in the fights ahead, and community gathering spaces where we'll deepen the relationships, solidarity, and networks of care that will help us show up for our people as the systems we've been forced to survive under crumble around us.

That all begins on Monday, June 1st at 6:00 pm MT during our virtual We Got Us Community Meeting, where we'll break down where we've been and where we're headed next – rolling out our brand-new membership structure, sharing more about our history, values, and current campaigns, and launching new pathways for young people and community members to plug into our ongoing work.
We know that the fights ahead will take all of us. More than ever, we believe it's time for us to link arms across movements, generations, and struggles to organize for a future where our communities control the decisions that shape our lives, and we need every single person who's ready to fight for that future to join us in building what comes next.
Click here to register to join us virtually on June 1st and help us grow our collective power by inviting your friends, family, co-workers, and community to help us launch the next chapter of YUCCA's work together.
We can't wait to keep building with you in the weeks ahead – and this is only the beginning. The systems and actors that want us to believe harm is inevitable are counting on us to stay isolated, exhausted, and hopeless. But by coming together to organize, care for, and protect each other, we can build a world beyond them – and we won't stop fighting until we do. ✊
