We're Heading to Houston to Confront The "Super Bowl" of Oil and Gas Conferences

Later this week, the YUCCA team is headed to CERA Week in Houston, where we'll join frontline organizers from the Gulf South and beyond to confront what's known as the "Super Bowl" of oil and gas conferences, where over 10,000 industry insiders, financiers, and their allies in positions of power will gather to strategize about how to expand the systems of extraction driving the climate crisis and harming our communities.

From Chevron CEO Mike Wirth, to Blackstone Board Member Ruth Porat, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, Occidental CEO Vicki Hollub, ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, Freeport LNG CEO Michael Smith, and 800+ other industry speakers, these are the people, polluters, and corporations poisoning our lands, waters, air, and communities for profit.

The decisions made at CERA Week don't stay there. The narratives shaped by industry insiders at conferences like these shape what happens here in New Mexico – from Blackstone's proposed takeover of PNM, to the construction of Project Jupiter in Doña Ana County, to the lack of accountability and oversight that has allowed the fossil fuel industry and its allies to greenwash extractive industry priorities as "innovation" and "progress".

That's why we're showing up in Houston to stand in solidarity with our allies from the Gulf South and beyond as we take action to fight back against the systems of extraction harming our families and planet, raise our voices to call for the bold climate action that this moment demands, and make it clear that another path forward already exists – one that is already being built by our communities.

As the YUCCA team prepares to take action in Houston, we're already learning from the organizers who have spent years showing up at CERA Week, going up against wealthy billionaires, polluters, and the decision-makers who continue to side with them. In our latest episode of the Yapping with YUCCA podcast, we sat down with Jon and Armon – two incredible leaders organizing alongside communities in the Gulf South and the Borderlands – to dive into their work, the fights ahead at CERA Week, and the importance of continuing to build power and solidarity across regions in ways that extend far beyond one conference or week of action.

If you're ready to dig deeper into the industry agendas harming our communities, the interconnected systems of harm that we're challenging from New Mexico to the Gulf South, and the solutions we're building together, this is an episode you don't want to miss. Tune in on Youtube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts to learn more about CERA Week directly from the organizers doing this work on the ground.

While we're in Texas, we'll be sharing on the ground updates on our social media platforms.
