What Could Blackstone's AI Ambitions Mean for New Mexico? Join Us THIS Saturday For A Conversation with Karen Hao, Acclaimed Author of Empire of AI

Right now, the world's largest private equity firm is attempting to buy out New Mexico's largest electric utility – just as corporations are racing to profit from the rapid expansion of AI data centers, including the construction of Project Jupiter in Doña Ana County.

At a time when Wall Street billionaires, corporate executives, and industry profiteers are scheming behind closed doors to seize and extract our resources, locking us into an energy system built to serve wealthy investors and CEOs instead of the people, it's more important than ever for us to deepen our understanding of what's at stake for our communities and our future.

That's why THIS Saturday, March 14th, we're joining our movement allies at New Energy Economy to bring our community together for a conversation with Karen Hao, acclaimed author of Empire of AI and an award-winning journalist, on what Blackstone's AI ambitions could mean for New Mexico.

As the first journalist to profile OpenAI, the co-creator of the Pulitzer Center's AI Spotlight Series (a program that trains thousands of journalists around the world on how to cover AI), and author of an NYT bestseller, Hao offers critical insight on the rapidly-growing AI industry, the colonial systems enabling it, and the impacts of its expansion.

Due to an outpouring of interest from community, the Santa Fe event is currently at capacity for in-person attendance – but there are still two ways you can join the conversation.

📢 Join Us In Albuquerque  📢

While the Santa Fe event is at capacity, there's still another chance for you to hear from Karen Hao in person on March 14th – but space is filling up fast.

Click here to register to join New Energy Economy, YUCCA, and Defend NM Water for the Albuquerque discussion at 4:00 pm at the Historic Lobo Theater (3013 Central Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM). Following the conversation, we'll hold an optional potluck at the Lobo Theater for attendees to continue building community, strengthening our relationships, and planning for the work that lies ahead.

Registration for the event is free, but we encourage those who are able to bring a dish, drink or snack to share and help contribute to this space of collective care and community connection.

 💻 Join Us Virtually 💻

If you aren't able to join us in person in Albuquerque, you can still tune into the hybrid Santa Fe event from anywhere virtually via Zoom!

Click here to register to join New Energy Economy online at 11:00 am this Saturday, March 14th, to join community members across the state as we dig into the conversation.
